Last year we introduced the simplest pricing method in UK Hallmarking to date. We merged categories and services to produce a range of straightforward unit prices depending on the number of articles submitted at a time when transparency in our trade was essential.

Silversmith Steve Ottewill visited Goldsmiths’ Hall for a private hallmarking session. Specialist hand marker Robert Grant marked a miniature troop of soldiers for a piece called 'Blind Leading the Blind' designed and made by Ottewill, and commissioned by the Defence Chemical Biological Radioactive and Nuclear Centre (DCBRNC).

We hold leopards very close to our hearts at the Assay Office. The leopard’s head is the town mark of London, and its image is used all around Goldsmiths’ Hall and our sub-offices – in the carpets, the stonework, the wallpaper – and we even sponsor a big cat through the Born Free foundation.

Candice Devine, the first female Assay Office Apprentice has completed her apprenticeship and is now a Freeman of the Goldsmiths Company, and Freeman of the City of London.

Dr Robert Organ, Deputy Warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office is Secretariat for the International Association of Assay Offices. This month, it met after the Hallmarking Convention meeting in Lisbon, Portugal w here Dr Organ was elected as Chairman for the next meeting in September in Cyprus.
