Assay Offices can apply hallmarks to partially constructed items, providing certain conditions are met. These conditions are designed to ensure that the finished article complies with the Hallmarking Act.
The BHC’s guidance sets out the conditions as follows:

• The online Dealers Notice will encourage engagement with customers, indicate responsible and lawful trading, and help explain the role and value of the Hallmark
• Hallmarking Awareness and Learning Online (HALO) award launched for businesses promoting hallmarking compliance to the benefit of consumer protection

• A new commemorative mark has been designed to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
• The mark can be requested from 1st November 2021
• Historically, commemorative marks have been added to the regular hallmark to signify a special event
• The mark, designed by Thomas Fattorini Ltd, depicts an orb, and reflects the traditional fineness mark for platinum
