Hallmarking: Practical Guidance
The UK's Assay Offices and the British Hallmarking Council have issued a practical guide to The Hallmarking Act 1973. It explains why precious metal articles are hallmarked and the standards for hallmarking precious metal. Dealer's Notice
One of the requirements of the Hallmarking Act 1973 is that all dealers supplying precious metal jewellery (or other items made of precious metal) shall display a notice explaining the approved hallmarks.
This must be the notice produced by the British Hallmarking Council (BHC).
There are two versions of the current dealers notice:
Dealers notice A for use in shops and other places where precious metal jewellery (or other items made of precious metal) are sold in person (e.g., market stands, trade shows, fairs, etc) - Download Dealers Notice A
