Dr Robert Organ, Deputy Warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office has flown to New York for the sixth annual gold conference run by Initiatives in Art and Culture. It is called 'Gold – Metaphors, Milestones and Metamorphosis', and his presentation is titled: 'The London Assay Office: How Hallmarking Remains Vital to the Assurance of Quality in the Jewellery and Metal Trades'.
The IAC educates diverse audiences in the fine, decorative, and visual arts.
Robert says "A gold conference is a golden oppirtunity to educate the North Americans about hallmarking and to encourage them to move to setting up a hallmarking system there. I feel sure that they will also reap the benefits of such a system as we have for the past 700 years".
